What advantages does a CSA offer that the Farmer’s market doesn’t? CSA members are out first priority and they don’t have to be at the market early to get the best of everything. You will always have the best available whether you get your box early or late. Our customers tell us that they enjoy the convenience of the pre-packed boxes and creative recipe ideas received each week. They also report that the program encourages them to make new discoveries in vegetables and serving suggestions. What are the dates of the Summer 2010 CSA? The Summer CSA starts Saturday, June 5 and ends Saturday, November 20 for a total of 25 weeks. What is the pickup location? Your CSA is picked up each Saturday at the Clark Park Farmer's Market located at 43rd and Baltimore. Yes, the farmer's market is open year round! What the difference between a large share and small share? A large share is designed to provide weekly fruit and vegetables for a family of 3 to 5 members. Each share will contain approximately 8 to 11 varieties of fruits and vegetables. A small share is designed to provide weekly fruit and vegetables for a family of 2 adult members. Each share contains approximately 4 to 7 varieties of fruits and vegetables. What are the pickup times? Pickup times are from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Yes, we are at the market much earlier than 9:30 a.m.; however, it takes quite a while to set up and get organized. Please no pickups earlier than 9:30 a.m. Can I specify what items I do and don’t want in my box? As much as we’d like to, we cannot tailor boxes to suit every members needs. However, we will allow only very minor substitutions. What if I’m away on vacation and miss a box? If you are going away, we recommend that you share the harvest with family or friends. Simply have that person pick up your box for you, though make sure they know where to go, and how to pick it up. If you don’t have friends or family who are interested in the share, and as a last resort, pre-arrangements can be made for a double share pickup. (NOTE: Pre-arrangements must be made for a double share pickup.) Is share distribution ever cancelled due to weather? Yes. If we find it necessary to cancel the distribution for a week due to a storm or other unforeseen situation, we will send e-mail notifications as soon as possible. Also, you can check our website. A missed week will be added to the end of the session. Can another person pick up my share? Yes. We do not need to know that someone else will pick up your share. Just make sure that the person picking up your share signs in with your name. Cancellations If for some reason you find it necessary to cancel your CSA share, you will need to find someone to replace your membership. We are unable to give refunds. What crops are grown? In all, we grow close to 100 varieties of vegetables, fruits and herbs. Since each variety has its own season, all varieties will not be available every week, but you will have a fantastic selection most every week. What is "organically grown" and "naturally raised meat?" Organically grown means food grown and processed using no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Naturally raised meat means animals are raised in a humane way, never given unnecessary antibiotics or added growth hormones. |
